Julio Sáenz

Julio Sáenz holds a Pharmacy Degree from the Universdiad de Salamanca, a Masters in Vine-growing and Oenology and a Degree in Oenology from the Universidad de La Rioja, and is a member of the Comité de Cata de los Consejos Reguladores de Rioja y Ribera del Duero since 1998. He also contributes regularly to different technical publications and congresses in the sector.
Julio Sáenz joined La Rioja Alta, S.A. in 1996 as the head of the Quality Control Department, and also led the group’s experimentation programs in recent years. Technical Director of La Rioja Alta, S.A. since 2005, he is also the wine manager for two of the most important initiatives introduced by the Grupo La Rioja Alta S.A.: Viñedos y Bodegas Áster, in the Ribera de Duero and Torre de Oña, in the Rioja Alavesa.

    buenas tardes julio gracias por tus consejos tengo barrica de 5 litros y la e limpiado con bicarbonato y agua caliente como me dijistes esta limpia y le meto siempre vino de ribera del Duero de tres meses en barrica y suelo beber dos o tres copas solo los sabados y domingo pero estoy observando q sale un poco agrio o perro a que es debido… gracias julio

      Hola Germán
      Probablemente sea debido a que hay hueco en la barrica. Si sacas vino de la barrica, hay que completarla con vino para que esté siempre llena. Un saludo, Julio.

    julio buenos días y gracias por tu información que nos das ….mi pregunta sobre una barrica de rom que limpie hace un año como me dijiste …le estoy metiendo vino la verdad que me sale bueno va desapareciondo el dulzon a rom boy cosumiendo y la lleno.tengo que limpiarla anual o no hace falta un saludo julio,,,

    Just wanted to ask if your Reserva 2012 Rioja is suitable for vegans? (DO you use any animal products/ byproducts during the making of the wine?

    the last quastion . the biggest problem in your wine is cork . is it true you buy cheap corks for the wine to sell it in good price . Ihave to say I threw away some bottles of 904 2005 inclusive magnum because of corkfault . I tell you the year 2010 was wonderful in toskana . I bought vigna paganelli 6 bottles this wine stayed in barrells 4 years an than 4 years in bottles -noone had corkfault . Do you know the problem in your wine?

      La Rioja Alta SA only buys corks from well-established suppliers who have passed the validation process. ONLY the highest quality is acceptable for ALL of our wines and economic considerations are irrelevant. Regards, Julio.

    you know one day was a friend by us. normally I dont open such a good wine like 904 2004 most people look for alcohol in woine that day I decide I open 904 2004 the friend had no idea about wines . she put the glass to the nose and said oh my god this wine has a beautiful flavor i said yes it really has and then I thought that was a good decision . 904 2005 and brunello il poggione 2010 are my favorites. I think you both are twins . with vina ardanza 2001 that was my first aroma expirience in wine extraordinary wines Iexpect now 904 2007 I know it has by parker 95 points it is shurely amazing wine insnt it?

      2007 is one of the best harvest we have elaborated. I’m sure..You are going to enjoy its balanced structure, pleasant acidity, round tannins and the long and complex finish. Regards.
