“A question of trust”

Both canopy development and health conditions at the vineyard were very good. A notable event were the mid-September rains, which slowed down grape ripening, thereby propitiating the grape’s alcoholic and phenolic balance. From then on and until the end of the harvest, the weather was was dry and sunny, allowing the grapes to ripen optimally. The official rating of this vintage was VERY GOOD.

The vineyard and the grapes

Tempranillo with a small percentage of Mazuelo (6%) from the Berzal, Martelos and Camino de la Iglesia vineyards, which border our winery in Páganos, Álava. These vineyards are planted in shallow infertile soils which provide the high-quality grapes to make this Club de Cosecheros Reserva wine.

Vinification

The grapes were collected manually and placed in boxes before being transported to the crush pad in refrigerated platforms. There, they were destemmed, crushed and put into tanks. Alcoholic fermentation and maceration lasted 16 days at controlled temperatures. Malolactic fermentation also took place in tanks, lasting 62 days. The best wines were then selected for the blend.

Ageing

30 months’ ageing in oak barrels (75% French oak and the rest new American oak). The American oak barrels are made with wood imported from the U.S. and dried at our facilities to achieve a degree of maturity suitable for ageing our wines. The French oak barrels are acquired at point of origin after a painstaking selection process by our winemaking department. During this time, the wine was racked four times, employing traditional barrel-to-barrel methods, with the final blend being performed in February 2013. Since then, the wine has been rounding off in our bottle racks.
